Last week the 2009 World Hunger Year (WHY)-Chapin Awards took place at Chelsea Piers, and two great Caribbean artists were on hand to share the limelight.   Performing legend and former winner Harry Belafonte presented the prestigious humanitarian award to this year’s recipient, Wyclef Jean.

The Haitian rapper established the Yele Haiti foundation in his country four years ago, and as Belafonte explained, the education, health, environment and community development programs it implements “allows kids to dream”.

Wyclef Jean was commended by Harry Belafonte for his innovative activism, and the WHY-Chapin awards celebrated his community-based solutions to hunger and poverty.
