The LongHouse Reserve, Summer Gala, celebrates “Living WithArt.”

LongHouse Reserve will host its annual Summer Gala at their 16-acre East Hampton grounds on Saturday, July 19, 2008, honoring two distinguished members of the arts community, Martin Puryear with the Long House Medal of 2008 and H. Peter Stern with the first LongHouse Art Leadership Award. Puryear, whose 30 years of work was recently exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, and H. Peter Stern, chairman, president and co-founder of the Storm King Art Center,America’s leading outdoor sculpture park, have made inspirational contributions to the evolution and preservation of sculpture. The evening event also will highlight LongHouse’s permanent collection of works from well-known artists Yoko Ono, Miquel Barceló, and Dale Chihuly, among others.

Guests will have the opportunity to wander through the spectacular LongHouse grounds during the cocktail hour, following a path that will encourage them to appreciate organic beauty, which is this year’s Gala theme. Following the cocktail hour, guests will be treated to a special dance performance on the pond, a feast of earthy American flavors and a décor that stems largely from LongHouse’s own natural resources. Party goers also can participate in silent and live auctions featuring exciting opportunities to experience art, such as works donated by artists represented in the LongHouse’s permanent collections.

All proceeds from the Summer Gala will support the LongHouse Reserve’s mission to exemplify living with art in all forms– a mission started in 1991 by Jack Lenor Larsen, one of the world’s foremost advocates of traditional and contemporary crafts. Through its gallery, arboretum, sculpture gardens, and educational programs, LongHouse unites art and nature, aesthetics and spirit. It remains strongly committed to a belief that the artsare central to living wholly and creatively.
